  • Community, Communication, Communion

ended his homily at last week’s Corpus Christi Mass with a compelling reminder of the natural obligations of Christian life.

Organizing our lives in front of Christ, he said, requires more than individual prayer. It requires us to take our faith out into our communities and, more, to ensure it is central to how we conduct ourselves within those communities.

  • Maisonneuve’s Mustard Seed

Ceremonies to mark the 372nd anniversary of the founding of Montreal as a religious colony were held Sunday in Place d’Armes following Mass at Notre Dame de Basilica.

Traditionally, the Mayor of Montreal places a wreath at the foot of the monument to the city’s founder, Paul de Chomedey, Sieur de Maisonneuve. This year, however, Mayor Denis Coderre was away on business. In his place Archbishop Christian Lepine and Frantz Benjamin, the speaker of council chambers at City Hall, did the honours.

  • Montrealers Walk for Corpus Christi

Archbishop Christian Lepine led thousands of the faithful through the streets of Montreal Thursday evening in this year’s annual Corpus Christi eucharistic procession.

The feast of the body and blood of Christ began with a Mass at Cathédrale Marie- Reine-du-Monde and ended four hours later after benediction at St. Patrick’s Basilica.

  • Saving an Endangered Church

Montreal Archbishop Christian Lepine has approved funds that will help reclaim a shuttered city church from Heritage Canada’s Top 10 list of endangered historic sites.

The parish of Saint-Nom-de-Jésus has also launched a $7 million campaign to restore the church – nicknamed the East End Cathedral -  so it can be re-opened in time for Mass this Christmas Eve.
